Cultural Heritage Technical Committee to assist in cemetery restorationAlithia
The bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage is offering ways that GC and TC cemeteries in a bad state could be restored, Alithia reports.
The paper writes that the committee has offered communities on both sides of the divide the opportunity to submit funds for the restoration of their cemeteries. Alithia reports that the committee itself does not have funds for the restoration of cemeteries since its priorities are the maintenance and restoration of monuments and other things.
The paper writes citing information that work has already begun on a pilot basis at cemeteries in Paphos’ Mandria and Larnaca’s Kalo Chorio. Work is also expected to take place at cemeteries in Kofinou, Lefkonoiko, and Neo Chorio Kythreas, as well as at two historic graves in Polemidia.
Alithia writes that according to studies conducted and information collected, TC graves in government-controlled areas are also in bad shape, but notes that perhaps due to the larger number of GCs, there are more GC cemeteries in bad shape.
